The Riesencodex (which weights 15 Kg) dates from around 1200 and contains the collected works of the German Benedictine abbess and polymath Hildegard of Bingen, who died in 1179. Hildegard’s works, which span mysticism, philosophy, medicine, and natural history, were very influential resources showcasing the intellectual and artistic achievements of the time.
