Our Scottish deck focuses on the time of the First Scottish Wars of Independence, the era of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Scotland emerged from a period of internal conflicts among local lords but eventually united to rebel against the English Crown and fight for independence.
The Scottish armies were skilled in guerrilla warfare, using their deep knowledge of the terrain to gain the upper hand. They used tactics that turned the environment to their advantage, such as trapping enemies in bogs, weakening heavily armored opponents in the muddy terrain, and employing scorched-earth policies to deny resources to the enemy.
The Scots excelled in spear tactics, particularly the schiltron formation, a dense wall of long spears used to repel cavalry charges. This formidable defense rendered them a challenging force to attack head-on.
Scotland exported significant quantities of wool and used Birlinn ships, inspired by Viking longships, to trade across European naval routes. Their strong alliance with France, formalized in the Auld Alliance, further strengthened their position against their common enemy: the English.
